December 10 & 11th

Passed a very nice day in Panama yesterday, Lorne took us for a tour to the Miraflores locks on the Panama Canal and we watched many boats go through. Then spent an hour at the airport trying to complete some paperwork to speed things up for an early morning departure to get in lots of sunlight hours and a minimum of cloud build up. Still took us 1.5 hours this morning to get all paperwork complete but finally took off for Colombia, which is where we are right now, in Cali, Colombia. If the bureaucracy was bad in Panama it was incredible here. Had hoped to enter Ecuador today, but got held up by the Colombian officials who sent us to no fewer than 10 offices, many of them repeats, three times through security and we still do not have all the paperwork done to fly out in the morning!! Oh well, we have yet to hit Peru which is supposedly worse.

Flying has been good, both plane and co-pilots behaving well!

Hi Crew,
I happened to be talking with Perry the other night and he told me that he sent a transmitter with you. COPA Flight 107 had our Dec. meeting last night and Ed brought us up to date with your travels thus far. I have sent the link to all our club members, so you have lots of folks from the southwest watching your posts and flight path! Its a really great idea to track your flight and leave pictures of your daily events, we really enjoy it!
All the best and happy flying!! Find any Rider fans in your travels yet??

Making headway big time! Somehow I thought the canal would be wider, must be a close fit for some. Great to be there...Hal you would be in your element...history and politics rolled into one!! marjie

Border crossings could remind one of Africa & CUSO days, uh Harold? Good thing you're experienced!
I love seeing....
Barb's toes,
the 10,000 Cdn hogs,
the sniffer dog,
celebration at finding the broken wire,
freighters in the Canal etc.
Some Cruise ships don't fit. 'Ours' had 12 inches on either side!
Sorrels feel good today!

Lorne and Gang,
What a trip -- with tracking and the blog pictures/commentary. Anne-Marie and I are watching with interest and envy. Every pilots dream -- cross into South America and the equator with a good looking co-pilot and capable navigator. (you know who fits where}. We can imagine the customs hassel and excitement (or frustration). Looking forward to tomorrows adventures.
See you in Florida (or Bahamas) to get the rest of the story.
